Our home is at the end of a street. We have two spots in driveway to park. It is ok to block in the big white truck in our driveway. There are two spots on street in front of home, but if all taken please park in front of our next door neighbor home on same side street as our home.

Are classes the same time each day for that week/session?

Yes

What if my child is afraid of the water?

There are many reasons a child may be afraid of the water, but instructors are trained to handle true fear with empathy and encouragement. One-on-one lessons allow for a customized learning environment for a fearful child. Children who have come to us from other lessons or who have had a negative experience in the water are usually building confidence and learning new skills with a newfound sense of accomplishment within 2-3 days (on average).

At what age should I start swim lessons for my child?

6 months of age (able to sit up, crawl, =or>18#). The sooner a child is more comfortable and respects the water, the safer they child will be with supervision. Just because your child learns survival and swims well, does not mean you don't have to supervise them in the water!

How quickly will my child learn to swim?

Just as each child learns to crawl, walk, ride a bike, or play a musical instrument at his or her own pace, children progress through swimming skills at their own pace too. But, most of our kiddos learn to independently swim and float in about 5 private lessons.

Your child may learn one skill quickly, and then it may take longer to acquire another skill. Like dance, sports skills, or musical skills, learning to swim is a process that is nurtured and developed over time. It is a motor skill that will improve with consistent exposure, repetition, and effective practice.

Many times, once a child has accomplished a skill, they will want to practice it over and over again. We balance the acquisition of new skills with allowing your child to feel confident with his/her current ability in the water throughout the learning process.

Can babies really swim?

You’re not going to see your 8-month-old swimming strokes, but babies can definitely learn to hold their breath, orient themselves to move through the water, and roll onto their backs to rest and breathe. Children who are walking CAN learn to swim toward a point of safety with a goal in mind! You’ll be amazed at what your child can learn.

What if my child is crying? screaming?

It is completely natural for a child to show emotions during the first few lessons. The newness of the situation, working with someone they haven’t met before, or separation from mom or dad can all be reasons pushback.  These are common causes of initial insecurity, and I use a variety of methods in introducing skills so that each child gains trust in instructor and in the lesson process.
