How did Crazy Train get its name?

While I have always coached/instructed one sport or another since early youth, the name came to be when adults started asking me to "help" train them for races in both swim & run. This eventually moved to a small training program of less than 10 in 2009 that has now grown into 100+ members in lots of towns in nine states with other certified coaches working with Crazy Train. A simple travel trip planned for 15 runners in 2012 for the Rock N Roll Savannah Half Marathon kick started the run/triathlon travel opportunities. That 15 grew into a trip for 40 to Bermuda for the Marathon weekend, and now we travel with 60+ each trip stateside & abroad.  Some time along the way, joking around, someone asked "How did you get convinced to ride this crazy train with Meggie?" The name was officially set.  Some folks only train with us, some folks just travel with us, some do all of the above, either way, once a member, always a passenger on the "Crazy Train".   Crazy Train, dba EG=MC3, LLC the run, swim, fitness group is an insured member of Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) & USA Swimming.

What does EG=MC3 mean?  It is a spin off Einstein's theory of relativity: energy equals mass times the speed of light squared.   On the most basic level, the original equation reads that energy and mass (matter) are interchangeable; they are different forms of the same thing. My services, aka my energy, are delivered faster than speed of light, defy gravity and blah blah blah. ;) But, in the end, those are the initials of my most important littles' first names, my nieces and nephews.

Meggie, coach/instructor

I have been teaching infant/youth swim lessons part time (a couple weeks each summer) since 1988 through American Red Cross. After retirement, in 2014, I began teaching swim full time. My favorite runs & swims are those with folks in training and the with my pups, Gris Gris, Se7en (RIP), & Annakat by my side. An athlete since early youth, I have participated in countless marathons, duathlons, sprint to ironman distance triathlons, 10ks, and 5Ks. I have 30+ years coaching many sports: recreational & competitive gymnastics, cheer, cross country, track & field, soccer, basketball, softball, and swim. In 2004, I had the an idea to create and direct the first ever kids triathlon (ages 3-14) in the state of Louisiana. With the help of many many folks & BREC, it became a huge success! With only 37 participants in the inaugural year, our goal was to promote swim lessons/safety and healthier lifestyles for our youth, as well as, grow the sport of triathlon.  In 2009, I turned the kids triathlon over to the nonprofit RocketKidz Foundation and today, this event hosts more than 200 kiddos.  To this day, they are still holding true to the mission statement set forth in 2004!

Many years ago, I finished school with a BS and a MBA. My education, certifications, practical experience, & personality help round out my qualifications as your coach/instructor.

I love and enjoy the water, pool, ocean, etc. Teaching and watching someone learn and master a new skill is exciting!!

My water and swimming experiences include; life long enjoyment of the water and swimming through swim team, skiing, lifeguarding, swim lessons, swim team stroke judging (when my kids swam on a team) etc. has encompassed a large part of my non-work time through the years.

From teaching swimming lessons, lifeguarding and swim team as a teenager, to lifeguarding throughout nursing school and recreational and exercise swimming.

Now as  a semi-retired RN after 40 plus years, work history; ER, OR, ICU and the last 20 plus years K-12 school nursing. AHA BLS Instructor.

I enrolled in a Water Safety Instructor course April 2023 to update my swimming instructor status, this past summer mentored with experienced swimming instructors including Meggie.

My goal is to teach a love for the water to include water respect, safety and when ready, swim technique to promote healthy, happy water fun and great memories as I have experienced as a child and adult.

Looking forward to making new swim friends.

Having played sports all of my life, mentoring for new runners is a great way to help me stay fit, but keep me connected to the world of exercise. While playing basektball, soccer, baseball, & ultimate frisbee, running was a huge part of those sports, but until now I have not conisdered myself a runner. It is a pleasure getting to be a part of other's experiences and meeting new like minded people.

Erin, run coach

I grew up playing multiple sports and loved the competitive nature of it. When I was younger, I always gravitated toward team sports and while it was always an element of off-season conditioning, I was NOT a fan of running. Fast-forward through my relatively sedentary 20’s and 2 kids later, I needed something for me (and let’s be honest-something to get rid baby weight!). It had to be something I could do with a stroller and pretty much squeeze in anytime. So, naturally, I became a runner. Prior to this point in my life, I had never run more than a 5K. Next thing I knew, I was signed up for my first half marathon. After crossing that finish line…I was in love! It made me feel young, healthy, and accomplished. I found the Crazy Train group in 2014 and it took my training to an entirely different level. Several half marathons, 5Ks, 10Ks, triathlons, and a couple marathons later, I realized I’d landed right back where I loved to be…on a team. I love the accountability, encouragement, and support this group provides. I became an RRCA certified run coach in  early 2017 and looking forward to growing into my role as a coach with this running family!

Stephanie, RN, run & bike coach

Sports have always been a part of my life, from playing softball, basketball, volleyball to swimming. For many years I worked at a specialty run store & fitness center.  On top of that, I have been coaching numerous sports: coaching H3 & run groups, basketball at St. George School, strength & conditioning at West Feliciana High School as well as St. Joseph’s Academy. My favorite coaching position was working as a certified Girls on the Run coach for the GOTR South Louisiana Chapter.  What an experience getting to see young lives changing for the better. I am an avid swimmer, cyclist, & runner, completed my first half in 2011 & my first full marathon in 2013. WOW, And I am still hooked. I finished at SELU  in Kinesiology with a minor in coaching & exercise science and nursing school on the MS Gulf Coast. In case you need it (but hopefully not), I am certified in Adult & Child CPR & first aid. See you running!

Erin, run coach

Originally from Ohio, I have moved around the country since 2001 for work, now relocated to Lexington, KY.  I finished my first triathlon in 2010 (TX) and in 2011 did my first half marathon (AZ), without any official training. I was never a runner so that finish was just that, a successful finish.  I learned of The Crazy Train in 2012 and joined them 2013 (GA); I lived in Minnesota at the time. Made the trip and met some long time friends.  I continued to work with Crazy Train remotely and also joined them in 2014 (FL).  It was some of the best camaraderie I have been involved with, support from every direction!  I love the great outdoors and have hiked many areas in & around the US! Hiking is a great passion, along with my four legged running buddy, Cade, and cycling. My favorite cycling event being the DC Aids Ride from Norfolk, VA to Washington, DC.  Success at any level is success, and the little accomplishments keep me encouraged.  Here's to the next challenge to keep us all going!

Pam, run mentor

I joined Crazy Train in August of 2015. I was just looking for a workout group so I could exercise and get in shape. While the workouts were great some other members of the group were running. The group consisted of all levels of runners. Ugh, maybe I could give running a try. In January 2016, a couple of the members committed to running our first half marathon. Run training was on! I ran my first half marathon in December of 2016 and as of December 2017 I’ve completed three half marathons and participated in in several other runs of all distances. Who knew I could accomplish all this in one year. I now can call myself a triathlete after completing three triathlons. If I can do this I’m certain anyone can. Oh! my name is Pam and I AM 56 years old.

Austin, run mentor

I am a 37 year old IT Officer.  I haven’t always lived what you would call an active lifestyle.  But, all that changed in May 2014 when I found out that I had developed Type II Diabetes.  This discovery pushed me into developing better eating habits as well as exercising.  My wife (Kelli) and I joined up with Crazy Train the following year.  Kelli began training to run a 5K and eventually a half marathon, and that got me motivated to give running a try.  I finished my first half marathon, December, 2017, and have a handful of shorter runs and sprint triathlons under my belt.  I’m watching Kelli start her training for a half Ironman, so I wonder how long it will be until I decide to give that a try.  Training and working out with the Crazy Train team gives me the motivation to keep bettering myself and a sense of accomplishment.  They’re a great group, and I’m thankful for them. So glad to get to motivate and mentor others in Crazy Train.

Mandy, run mentor

I joined Crazy Train in 2014. I first started because I needed a push to get in shape after my weight loss surgery. The group was so welcoming and encouraging I can not imagine what my life would be like without them. I decided to complete a half marathon in December 2016 and may not have run the whole thing, but had a great running partner (Meg K. another crazy train member) who pushed me to finish. I have never felt any accomplishment like I did that day. I cannot wait to another half and to be the best dang Sherpa there is for all of my teammates to help motivate and push them in their triathlons and runs. Thanks to all the coaches and team members for pushing me to reach my goals and becoming a mentor.

Mike, run coach

I received my BS in Exercise Science and my MS Exercise Physiology. I was state runner-up in cross country in class AA in Florida in 1975. I ran briefly at Furman University and have road raced at distances from 5k to the marathon. I was assistant track and cross country coach at Spring Valley High school and helped direct our team to a state championship. Recently I coached the boys cross country team at South Fork High School. Over the years I have coached a number of individuals of varying ages and abilities. After 25 years in pharmaceutical sales and a few years coaching at a Fleet Feet in FL , I retired in 2016 ready for the next chapter.  I look forward to integrating my new Chapter of owning Fleet Feet Monroe world with the wonderful running community and helping others achieve their goals. #shoplocal

Bill, run coach

I am a native of South Louisiana and have lived in St. Francisville for over 25 years.  I attended Louisiana State University where I received a degree in Construction Engineering.  I am retired from my career in engineering, as well as, a second career as a professional dog trainer. My hobbies include horseback riding, hunting, fishing and gardening.

I have been active in recreational sports my entire life and was what I would call an “occasional runner”.   In 2011, I decided to take running more seriously and began training on my own for local races.  In 2012, I joined the Crazy Train Run Group to help me train for my first Half Marathon.  It was in this run group that I began to learn about the science and mechanics of running.  I became so interested in this aspect of running that I decided to pursue becoming a Certified Running Coach.  In 2014, I successfully completed the study, classroom course and exam and received my RRCA Adult Distance Running Coach certification.  I am also certified in CPR and First Aid through the American Red Cross.

After receiving my coaching certification, I began coaching full time vs. part time and realized that I enjoy helping other runners learn to run comfortably, efficiently and longer as much as enjoy my own running.  Running has become a part of my life and I am excited to share my knowledge and passion for running.
